Transforming a Garage into a Functional and Beautiful Bedroom and Bathroom
Client Location: Ascot
Project Brief: Convert a garage into a bedroom and bathroom that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The design needed to be fresh and clean, in keeping with the rest of the house, and incorporate the client's favourite colour—sage green. The space was also required to be adaptable for future use as a study or snug.
The Process
The project began with architectural plans, which were passed on to our design team led by Sadie. After finalising the design, Ben and his team took over the installation. The layout of the internal space was modified to accommodate a new window, requiring structural reinforcements with steel beams. The garage door was replaced with a new wall to close off the space.
Once the room was prepped, the full installation, decoration, and styling were completed before handing the space back to the client.
Design & Execution
This project presented an exciting challenge: creating a space that was not only functional but also exuded beauty. Our clients envisioned a light, fresh ambiance that could easily transition from a bedroom into a study or snug in the future. Sage green was a central theme, guiding the design process.
Bathroom Design
The bathroom, though compact, was designed to feel like a relaxing sanctuary. The standout feature was a beautiful matte sage green tile from Quorn Stone called "Orkney," which set the tone for the entire space. To create visual interest, the tiles were installed vertically. Warmth was introduced through a light oak vanity, giving the room depth, while warm white walls and panelling were chosen to brighten the space, which lacked natural light.
For the fixtures, we mixed chrome sanitary ware with brass accents to give the bathroom a timeless appeal. Corston Architectural supplied the lights and brass hardware, including the sliding door handles, which saved space in the adjacent bedroom. The brass mirror cabinet was cleverly recessed into the wall, providing a hidden niche for storage.
Bedroom Design
In the bedroom, adaptability was key. We designed a built-in cabinet to conceal electrical boards while providing ample storage and space for a TV. The cabinetry was painted in Farrow & Ball's Pigeon No. 25, a soft colour that harmonised perfectly with the sage green bathroom tiles, creating a cohesive flow between the two spaces.
The room's flooring, Karndean Country Oak, added warmth and elegance, while the brass handles and wall lights, also from Corston Architectural, were selected to match the bathroom fixtures, tying the design together.
Outcome
The result was a beautifully functional space that our clients adored. Despite the small size, the room felt spacious and inviting. The bathroom's soothing tones and practical layout made it a true retreat, while the bedroom's thoughtful design offered versatility for future use.
“We are delighted with the new bedroom and ensuite. Everything was completed so professionally and diligently, and your design ideas and advice on colours, fixtures, and fittings were all spot on. We absolutely love how the en-suite has turned out and the cabinet/entertainment wall. My daughter’s first comment when she saw the completed result was ‘Wow!’ and she doesn’t say that very often! Thank you again for the excellent work.”
